1. Mega Military Exercise of ASEAN Plus countries begins in Pune: The multinational mega Military Exercise Force 18 conducted by India Army has started in Pune, Maharashtra. The theme of the exercise is ‘Humanitarian Mine Action’ (HMA) and ‘Peacekeeping Operations’ (PKO). Participating ASEAN countries along with ASEAN Plus nations are India, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Russia and US. Ten ASEAN countries from South East Asia are Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

2. India signs financing agreement with World Bank for USD 300 million for Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Quality Improvement Project.

3. NHAI ties up with Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad for skill development.

4. Government cancels IRB contract: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has cancelled a contract won by IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd to build a $1.5 billion tunnel in Himalayas after the opposition politician alleged irregularities in bidding for India’s most expensive project. Union Government has ordered rebidding for 10050 crore rupees Zoji La tunnel located on the NH 1D between Srinagar and Leh. 

5. Government plans to set up more nuclear power plants: To meet the need of the country, the Government of India plans to set up nuclear power plants in Haryana, Bihar and Punjab.

6. Parliament passes Carriage by Air Amendment Bill, 2015.

7. India ranks 90th out of 126 countries in terms of Energy Security compiled by World Economic Forum (WEF).

1. Major highlights/announcement of the Union Budget 2016-17: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented his 3rd Union Budget today. Highlights of which are as follows:
-Forex reserves are at highest level of $350 billion.
-2016: Current account deficit seen at 1.4% of GDP.
-GDP growth has accelerated to 7.6%. CPI inflation has come down to 5.4%.
-FY 2016-17 will have the additional burden of implementing the VII pay commission and the defence OROP.
-New schemes for BPL families for gas connections.
-Statutory backing for Aadhaar platform to ensure delivery of benefits.

2. Dinesh Sharma appointed as Chairman of Governing Council of the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD).

3. Punjab imposed ban on sale of Army Uniforms in the state: Any person who wants to buy the uniform would have to submit a self-attested copy of his identity card and phone number with the shopkeeper.

4. Ajay Shankar Committee recommendations on Prior Permission and Regulatory Mechanisms: The committee recommended that there is a need for a standing institutional mechanism within government for an independent Regulatory Impact Assessment on an on-going basis of the existing regulatory requirements and proposed new ones across the entire range of economic values.

1. ISRO to set up Satellite Centre for ASEAN countries in Vietnam: ISRO is working to establish a Satellite Tracking and Data Reception Station and Data Processing Facility for ASEAN member countries in Vietnam. ISRO will set up this satellite centre at the behest of Union Government as part of Space Cooperation between India and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

2. E-Tourist visa scheme extended to 37 more countries: The Union Government has extended its e-Tourist Visa Scheme to 37 more countries bringing the total to 150 countries which are getting this facility.

3. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh to get Dinanath Mangeshkar Prize: The award is annually conferred on 24th April to commemorate Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar’s father’s death anniversary.

4. ‘Neerja’ declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

5. Michael Pesch appointed CEO of Infosys Consulting Holding.

3. Forbes released inaugural 30 Under 30 Asia List: The list included 300 young innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders across Asia in 10 categories who are under 30 years of age. For the first time 56 Indians were included in the list namely Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza, Shraddha Kapoor, Virat Kohli, Arunima Sinha and Chaitanya Tamhane.

1. Highlights of Economic Survey 2015-16: The Economic Survey reviews the developments of the Indian Economy over the previous 12 months, summarizes the performances on major development programs, and highlights the policy initiatives of the government and the prospects of the economy in the short to medium term.

2. India approves $150 million credit line for Iran’s Chabahar port: The port in southeast Iran is central to New Delhi’s efforts to circumvent arch-rival Pakistan and open up a route to landlocked Afghanistan where it has developed close security ties and economic interests.

3. India and UK sign MoU for research in crop science: Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and a consortium of top UK research institutions signed a MoU for establishment of a joint India-UK collaboration programme in crop science.

EPFO tightens norms for withdrawal of funds: Employees Provident Fund Organisation has tightened norms on withdrawal of provident fund as well investment of such amount in Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana for its over five crore subscribers. As per the new norms the subscribers will not be able to claim withdrawal of their provident fund after attaining age of 54 years.

2. Mastercard to launch payments by selfie: Mastercard is launching new mobile technologies that will allow customers to authenticate their online purchase using selfies or fingerprints. The technology will be rolled out by big banks in the US, Canada, UK and some European countries over the next few months.
