FSSAI caps Trans fatty acids to 2% in food products from January 2022: The Food Safety
and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has restricted the permissible amount

amendment will come into effect from January 01, 2022. Currently, the
permissible limit for trans fats in food products in 2021 is 3 per cent, cut
down from the previous limit of 5 per cent. FSSAI has amended the Food Safety
and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations, 2011 to put
into effect the new Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on
Sales) Regulations, 2021.
What does this amendment mean: As per the new
rule, the food products in which edible oils and fats are used as an ingredient
shall not contain industrial trans fatty acids more than 2% by mass of the
total oils/fats present in the product, starting from January 01, 2022.
