NATIONAL UPDATES:
1.
Union Cabinet approves accession to global customs convention: The
Union Cabinet has given its approval for India’s accession to the Customs
Convention on International Transport of Goods under cover of TIR Carnets (TIR
Convention) and necessary procedures for ratification. By joining the
convention, Indian traders will get access to fast, easy, reliable and hassle
free international system for movement of goods by road or multi-modal means
across the territories of other contracting parties.
2. Union Cabinet approves MoU between India
and UN-Women: Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between India and the United Nations Entity of Gender
Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women). Under this MoU, Union
Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) and UN-Women will work in collaboration with
each other to promote participation of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions
(PRIs).

India drops
to 4th position on Hurun's list of billionaires: India
has dropped to the fourth spot among nations with the most number of billionaires
on Hurun's Global Rich List, with Germany surpassing it to take the third spot.
India saw 11 people drop out of the billionaires list mainly due to
demonetisation. Further, the country reported a total of 100 billionaires with
a combined net worth of $304 billion.
4. National Conference on Jal Kranti Abhiyan
to be held: Today, the Water Resources Minister Uma
Bharti inaugurated the day-long national conference on ‘Jal Kranti Abhiyan’ in
New Delhi. About 700 participants representing various stakeholder groups such
as farmers, panchayat members, NGOs and students will attend the conference. The
objectives of the Abhiyan is strengthening grass root involvement of all
stakeholders including panchayati raj institutions and local bodies for participatory
irrigation management.
5. Trade Mark Rules 2017 come into effect from
today: The Trade Mark
Rules, 2017 have come into effect which replaced the erstwhile Trade Mark Rules
2002. It will streamline and simplify the processing of Trade Mark applications.
Now, the fees for Individuals, Start-ups and Small Enterprises have been
reduced to 4,500 rupees for e-filing of the trade mark applications. In
the revamped rules number of Trade Mark forms have been reduced from 74 to 8. The
fee for online filing has been kept at 10%
lower than that
for physical filing to promote e-filing of trade mark applications. The
number of adjournments in opposition proceedings has been restricted to a
maximum of two by each party, which will help dispose off matters in time.
6. PM Modi to releases Special Commemorative
Postage Stamp on 100 years of Yogoda Satsang Math: The
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released commemorative Postage Stamp on 100th
Anniversary of the “Yogoda Satsang Society” of India at a function in New
Delhi. Yogoda Satsanga Society is a non-profit religious organization founded
by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917.
7. PM Narendra Modi to dedicate to nation Petrochemicals
Complex at Dahej in Gujarat: Prime
Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation a Petrochemical Complex of ONGC
Petro Additions Limited at Dahej. He dedicated a four-lane bridge over the
Narmada at Bharuch on NH-8.
8. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi becomes first to play Gayathri
veena for record five hours: Kerala’s
playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi created a new world record by playing the
maximum number of songs in the shortest time (5 hrs) on Gayathri veena during a
program in Kochi. She played a total of 69 songs including various classical
and filmy songs on the Gayathri veena became the first person to achieve the
feat in the world.

Tribal festival 'Bhagoria' begins in MP: The
week-long “Bhagoria Haat” festival has begun at different Bhagoria haats (local
markets) in western Madhya Pradesh. The festival has been celebrated by the
tribal people of the state. Young tribal men and women, attired in colorful
dresses, turn up at the haats with their traditional musical instruments to
sing and dance as a part of the festival.
INTERNATIONAL UPDATES:
1.
Polluted environment kills 1.7 million children a year: WHO report: According to recently released World Health
Organisation (WHO) report titled “Inheriting a sustainable world: Atlas on
children’s health and the environment”, polluted environment kills around 1.7
million children a year. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the
environment’s impact especially air pollution on children’s health,
illustrating the scale of the challenge.

Indo-Nepal joint Military exercise 'Surya
Kiran-X' begins today: Today,
the two-week long joint military exercise between India and Nepal “SURYA
KIRAN-XI” has begun in Pithoragarh area of Uttarakhand. Exercise is aimed at
training of both the troops in the area of various counter-insurgency
operations over a prolonged period. It will also focus on other important
aspects such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations and
environmental conservation. The Surya Kiran series of exercises are being
conducted biannually, alternatively in India and Nepal.
3. Indo-Oman military exercise 'Al-Nagah-II' begins in
Himachal: Indian and Royal Oman armies has begun joint
exercise “Al Nagah-two” in Bakloh area of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. Total
sixty contingents from both sides are taking part in the exercise. The exercise
would be mainly focused on counter-terrorism and forest warfare. Earlier this
kind of exercise was conducted in the year 2015.
SPORTS:
1. 2nd Test: India beat
Australia by 75 runs: India won the second Test by 75 runs in
Bangalore to level the four- match series 1-1. Australia Chasing a target of
187 in the fourth innings they were bowled out for 112 runs. Ashwin took 6
wickets for 41 runs. Earlier, Pujara scored 92 and Rahane scored 51 to help
India post a competitive total 274 runs.
2. OPPO wins Indian cricket
team sponsorship rights for five years: The Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI) has announced that mobile manufacturing company Oppo Mobiles India
Private Limited will be the new team sponsor of the Indian cricket team from
April 1, 2017 for a period of five years. It has replaced Star India.

3. Canara
Bank bags medals at PR Council's communication conclave: Public sector Canara Bank
has won a number of medals in the Collateral Awards Category at the 11th Global
Communication Conclave held in Bengaluru by the Public Relations Council of
India (PRCI). The bank won a gold medal for a radio jingle and silver medals
for Corporate Film and Brochure (CSR). It won bronze medals for its
in-house magazine (regional language), corporate advertisement – print, table
calendar - 2017 and Big Diary 2017.
4. HDFC
Bank launched chatbot Eva for customer services: Mumbai-headquartered HDFC Bank has launched
India’s first artificial intelligence based banking chatbot Electronic Virtual
Assistant (EVA) for customer services . Eva is India's first AI-based banking
chatbot and can answer millions of customer queries across multiple channels
instantly. It can assimilate knowledge from thousands of sources and provide
answers in simple language in less than 0.4 seconds.

5. Sri Lanka Wins 'Most Popular Tourism
Destination Award': The Island country in South Asia Sri
Lanka has won the 'Most Popular Tourism Destination Award' at the Guangzhou
International Travel Fair (GITF) in China. Sri Lanka won the award is
the testament to the country's growing popularity among Chinese travel
enthusiasts for the second consecutive year. The GITF is South China’s leading
travel Expo drawing affluent travel enthusiasts every year from mainland China.
6. M P Veerendra Kumar presented Moortidevi
award: Eminent Malayalam journalist and author M P Veerendra Kumar will be presented the 30th
Moortidevi award by Bharatiya Jnanpith organization. He was chosen for the
prestigious award for his Malayalam travelogue 'Hymavathabhoovil'. The award
was presented by Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair at a function at the
Tagore Centenary.
