NATIONAL UPDATES:

Chhattisgarh government to set up 300 rural industrial parks in the state: The Chhattisgarh government will set up rural industrial parks in the
state. In the first year of the project, there will be 300 such parks. This
move aimed to strengthen the rural economy and make the “gauthan” (cattle shed)
a centre of livelihood. The project will be launched on Gandhi Jayanti, October
2. The first such park in Chhattisgarh came up in Kulgaon, Kanker district,
which has been named Gandhi Gram. Rural industrial parks:
a) The district administration, along with women’s self-help groups, has developed
the park.
b) The forest department has started a residential training centre, based
on the value addition of minor forest produce. Chhattisgarh has set up 8,404
gauthans of the 10,624 sanctioned.
c) The state government is procuring cow dung at Rs 2 a kg for making
vermicompost. Production will increase once the 300 parks take shape.
d) The state government has been developing basic infrastructures, such as
interlocking, cement/concrete roads, dormitories, residential rooms, kitchen
halls, building sheds for women’s self-help groups, and underground irrigation
pipelines. The government is planning to use District Mineral Foundation (DMF)
funds for this.

2. UP
government to build India’s first education township: The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build an education township
in the state. As per the Yogi Adityanath government, the education township
will be developed on the idea of ‘Single Entry, Multiple Exit’. The move will
provide high-quality education to the youth and equip them with a variety of
professional skills in a single place. Besides, it will provide accommodation
and many other facilities to both students and teachers. Uttar Pradesh’s
education township:
a) Prestigious government and private universities of the country and the
world will be able to open their campuses in the township.
b) There will be primary and secondary schools like Atal Residential
Schools in the same place.
c) Universities and colleges will be established for undergraduate and
postgraduate studies wherein studies and research works related to management,
technology, law, and medicine will be carried out.
d) The education township will also feature skill development universities
where training will be imparted to the youth in different types of skills.
Besides, many other coaching institutes like Abhyudaya will be started in these
education townships so that more and more students can be successful in
competitive examinations like NEET, IIT, Union Public Service Commission etc to
be held in the country and the state.
e) Accommodations will be provided to both teachers and students at the
education township.

With the introduction of the ‘Single Entry,
Multiple Exit’ system in the state, students will be able to avail of cheap
education loans.

3. 23rd Central Zonal Council meeting presided over
by Amit Shah in Bhopal: Union Home Minister Amit
Shah led the 23rd Central Zonal Council Meeting in Bhopal. Shivraj Singh
Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Pushkar Singh Dhami, the
chief minister of Uttarakhand, attended the meeting. Yogi Adityanath, the chief
minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of
Chhattisgarh, participated virtually due to poor weather.
In Madhya
Pradesh, the Home Minister also dedicated police stations and office buildings.
Amit Shah laid the cornerstone for the National Forensic Science University
campus in Bhopal. The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah spoke at two seminars on
new educational policy and the function of cooperative societies in
agricultural marketing during his hectic visit to the capital of Madhya
Pradesh. Objective:
a) The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah addressed the people and stated that
the government is solely focused on addressing the issue of left wing extremism
in the Naxalite-affected regions included in the Central Zonal Council.
b) Several significant efforts have also been made for development in these
sectors, he continued, and these have produced positive outcomes.
c) Amit Shah shared comparative information regarding incidents, violence,
and the number of fatalities, adding that the Central Government is constantly
bolstering security forces in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism.

4. Rajesh
Verma named as Secretary to President Droupadi Murmu: Odisha cadre 1987-batch IAS officer, Rajesh Verma has been appointed
as the Secretary to President Droupadi Murmu. He replaces the incumbent Kapil
Dev Tripathi, a 1980-batch IAS officer. He is currently serving as Secretary of
the Ministry of Corporate Affairs & has also served as principal secretary
to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik. In the past, Verma has also served as the Principal
Secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Principal Secretary of
Energy Department, Government of Odisha.
5. Government re-appointed Ajay Bhalla as Union
Home Secretary for one year: The Central Government has
extended the term of Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla by one year. This
is his third extension in the post. He was initially set to retire in November
2020. Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was
appointed as the Home Secretary in August 2019.
INTERNATIONAL UPDATES:
1. South
Korea and the United States began their Largest Joint Military Drills: South Korea and the United States began their largest joint military
drills in years with a resumption of field training. This year, the annual
summertime exercise has been renamed ‘Ulchi Freedom Shield’ and it is scheduled
to end on 1st September 2022. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has vowed to
normalize the combined exercises and boost deterrence against the North. South
Korea has separately started or launched the four-day Ulchi Civil Defence
Drills, which is specially designed to boost the government readiness for the
first time after the Coronavirus pandemic occurred.
2. Vikram
Doraiswami appointed to UK as India’s High Commissioner: Vikram K. Doraiswami, a seasoned diplomat appointed as India’s new High
Commissioner to the United Kingdom which is seen as a significant position
given the two nations’ expanding strategic alliance. Vikram K. Doraiswami is
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh currently. He is an Indian Foreign
Service officer from the 1992 batch. In May 1994, Vikram K. Doraiswami was
appointed Third Secretary in the Indian High Commission in Hong Kong after
completing his in-service training in New Delhi between 1992 and 1993.
3. Netanyahu’s autobiography ‘Bibi: My Story’ to be
out in November 2022: Former Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin
Netanyahu’s memoir will be coming in November 2022. It is titled “Bibi: My
Story”. The book will range from Netanyahu’s early years to his singular
perspective on the geopolitics of the Middle East and his negotiations with
Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Trump to secure the future of his country.

1. Antim Panghal won gold medal at U-20 World
Wrestling Championship: 17-year-old wrestler Antim
Panghal has won the gold medal in the women’s 53kg category at the World U20
Wrestling Championships 2022 in Sofia, Bulgaria. With the top podium finish,
17-year-old Antim Panghal became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in
the U20 world wrestling championships. She defeated Kazakhstan’s Atlyn
Shagayeva. Antim belongs to Haryana’s Hisar district. It was the 45th edition
of the U-20 World Wrestling Championship.
BANKING AND FINANCE
1. Rajasthan with highest share in cost of projects
approved by banks: An article titled ‘Private Corporate Investment:
Growth in 2021-22 and Outlook for 2022-23.’ by RBI has revealed that Rajasthan
has accounted for the highest share in the total cost of projects sanctioned by
banks and financial institutions in FY22. The state has retained the top
position for two consecutive years. Uttar Pradesh at the second position
followed by Gujarat.
State-wise data
reveals that during 2021-22, more than half (56.4 percent) of the projects were
taken up in five states, viz., Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra,
and Tamil Nadu. The share of these five states increased significantly from an
average share of 40.7 percent during the period between 2012-13 and 2019-20 to
more than 50 percent during the last two years.

1. IREDA
and MAHAPREIT sign an MoU to provide loans for green energy projects: The Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Ltd.
(MAHAPREIT), a fully owned subsidiary of MPBCDC (49% owned by the Government of
India and 51% owned by the Government of Maharashtra), and the Indian Renewable
Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) signed a memorandum of understanding. About
the MoU
a) According to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, IREDA will
provide MAHAPREIT with financing options for the renewable energy projects that
will be developed for public utilities, local governments, and the
infrastructure of renewable energy parks.
b) The Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of IREDA, Shri Pradip Kumar
Das, and the CMD of MAHAPREIT, Shri Bipin Shrimali, both signed the MoU.
c) As part of this partnership, IREDA will also do techno-financial due
diligence on MAHAPREIT‘s initiatives involving renewable energy and energy
efficiency and conservation.
Goals of
the MoU
a) It will help to assist the Indian government in achieving its goal of
obtaining 50% of its energy from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
b) These programmes might promote green investment and create thousands of
employment.
c) To satisfy the expanding demand in the RE industry, IREDA created a
specialised Business Development and Consultancy branch two years ago.
d) This is the eleventh Memorandum of Understanding that IREDA has signed
in the previous two years to offer consultation services for the nation’s
sustainable development.
2. Adidas
CEO Kasper Rorsted to step down next year: Adidas
CEO, Kasper Rorsted will step down next year, the sports apparel maker. Rorsted,
who has been CEO since 2016, and its supervisory board mutually agreed that he
will hand over during the course of 2023. Rorsted’s departure was a mutual
decision of the supervisory board and the CEO following confidential
discussions.

Sivanandan Appointed as the Head of Disney+Hotstar: Sajith Sivanandan has been appointed as the executive vice-president
and head of Disney+Hotstar. Sajith Sivanandan will be reporting to Chairman of
Disney’s International Content and Operations Group, Rebecca Campbell, and
President of Disney Star, K. Madhavan. He will start working with
Disney+Hotstar in October with a dual reporting line of Disney Star.
DEFENCE
1.
India’s first-of-its-kind naval shooting range inaugurated at INS Karna: A
first-of-its-kind, Composite Indoor Shooting Range (CISR) was inaugurated by
Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta at INS Karna. The CISR is a state-of-the-art,
self-contained, 25 m, six-lane, live firing range for all primary and secondary
weapons in the Navy. With advanced target systems and associated control
software, this range would enable personnel to hone their firing skills,
enabling them to challenge and take on adversaries in demanding scenarios.
INS Karna is the first in the Navy &
the only military unit in the country to set up and use a facility of this
kind. The range has been set up to contemporary international standards by an
Indian firm and is a shining example of Atma Nirbhar Bharat in the year of
‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The entire facility was set up in a record time of
120 days from the award of the contract to the firm.

Boeing Pitches ‘Atmanirbhar strategy’ for Naval Fighter Jets: In the coming
week, India will commission its first Indigenous aircraft carrier. US aviation
major Boeing has made a strong pitch for the Indian Navy to choose the F/A 18
Super Hornet fighter jet, claiming that it would bring a profit of $3.6 billion
in domestic manufacturing. Boeing has joined its offers with the Government
scheme Aatmanirbhaar Bharat, before the commissioning of the indigenous
aircraft carrier Vikrant which will operate the new fighters. Vikrant is the
largest warship built by India, and India plans to buy 26 carrier-based
fighters for Vikrant. This deal will be done through a Government-to-Government
deal to meet the needs of the Indian Navy, with the US firm competing with
French aircraft maker Dassault Aviation has pitched its Rafale-M jets.
F/A-18 Super Hornet: F/A-18 Super Hornet is a premium frontline multi-role naval fighter, which is already in service of the US Navy.
