NATIONAL UPDATES:
1. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Launches ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Bhavishya Nirman Yojana’ for Competitive Exam Preparation: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Bhavishya Nirman Yojana on September 7, 2026, to provide free online coaching and quality study material for various competitive examinations. First Phase Beneficiaries:11,000 eligible students will receive free online coaching in the initial phase. Target Group: Students studying in government and government-aided colleges, as well as state universities in Uttarakhand. Eligibility Focus: Final-year graduation or post-graduation students, along with recipients of the Mukhyamantri Uchch Shiksha Shodh Protsahan Chhatravritti Yojana.
Aims: Helps talented youth from low-income families pursue careers without financial strain.
2. 14 September: Hindi Diwas: Hindi Diwas (Hindi Day) is celebrated every year on September 14 in India to commemorate the day in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language of the Union. Under Article 343 of the Indian Constitution, Hindi in the Devanagari script is recognized as the official language of the Union, while English was retained for official purposes. Hindi is an official language, not the national language. The first official Hindi Diwas was observed on September 14, 1953.
3. National Highway User Fee and Tolling Policy in India: National highways are among India’s most important economic assets, carrying heavy passenger and freight traffic across the country. Tolling, or user fee collection, helps fund their construction, upkeep and operation. Over time, India has shifted from manual toll booths to digital collection systems to improve flow, transparency and efficiency. Earlier, tolls on national highways were collected manually in cash, causing queues, delays and congestion at toll plazas. This created a strong case for electronic toll collection, which reduces physical contact, speeds up transactions and improves accountability. The shift has been especially important on high-traffic corridors where even small delays can affect logistics, fuel use and travel time.
4. Southern Railway Achieves 100% Electrification: Southern Railway has achieved 100% electrification of its Broad Gauge network, covering 5,068 route kilometres. The milestone was completed after electrification of the final 71-km Pattukkottai–Karaikkudi section in Tamil Nadu. Broad Gauge is the standard railway gauge used on most of the Indian Railways network. Electrification of BG routes allows electric locomotives to operate on overhead traction systems instead of diesel traction. The Pattukkottai–Karaikkudi section is a 71-km railway line in Southern Railway. Its statutory inspection was completed on 9 September 2026 by Ganesh, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of Southern Railway. The section forms the last remaining part of the zone’s BG network to be electrified.
5. IITM-C-DOT Samgnya, QClairvoyance sign quantum MoU: QClairvoyance Quantum Labs Pvt Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IITM-C-DOT Samgnya Technologies Foundation on 11 September 2026. The partnership covers quantum computing, quantum algorithms, quantum artificial intelligence, post-quantum cybersecurity, and next-generation computing. IITM-C-DOT Samgnya Technologies Foundation is India’s National Hub for Quantum Communication. It was established in December 2025 at IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai under the National Quantum Mission of the Department of Science and Technology. QClairvoyance Quantum Labs Pvt Ltd is an Indian deep-tech company founded in 2024 by Colonel Sai Shankar P, VSM (Retd.). The company develops quantum solutions in cybersecurity, drug discovery, and education.
6. Uttarakhand Launches Service Sankalp Campaign: The Uttarakhand Service Sankalp campaign will run across the state from 17 September to 17 October 2026. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the month-long campaign on 11 September 2026, and its launch date of 17 September coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The campaign is linked with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, a national goal associated with developed India by 2047. The programme uses service, public participation, dialogue, and innovation as its main themes. Eleven major programmes have been proposed to involve students, youth, women, beneficiaries, parents, public representatives, social organisations, and citizens.
7. Railway Projects in Himalayan Region: Railway projects in the Himalayan region are among India’s most demanding infrastructure works. They require long tunnels, high bridges and careful alignment through unstable geology, while also serving connectivity, tourism, disaster resilience and border logistics. In Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh-Ladakh, these lines are not just transport corridors but strategic lifelines. Their engineering solutions are important for Prelims because they combine geography, tunnelling technology and national security relevance. The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Project is a 125-km broad-gauge railway line in Uttarakhand. It is being developed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. The line will connect Rishikesh with Karnaprayag through a difficult Himalayan stretch marked by steep gradients, unstable slopes and fragile rock formations.
INTERNATIONAL UPDATES:
1. France gets its first traditional Hindu temple, BAPS chief performs consecration near Paris: BAPS spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj performed the Vedic consecration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris — France’s first traditional Hindu mandir. The mandir realises a vision first articulated in 1970 by BAPS’s third spiritual head, Yogiji Maharaj, and carried forward by his successor Pramukh Swami Maharaj before being completed under Mahant Swami Maharaj.
2. Drydocks World, Cochin Shipyard Sign Ship Repair Joint Venture: Drydocks World, a DP World company, and Cochin Shipyard Limited signed a 50:50 joint venture agreement on 11 September 2026 to operate and expand the International Ship Repair Facility in Kochi. The agreement was formalised during the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi and involves the transfer of the existing Willingdon Island facility to the new company. The joint venture has equal ownership, but Drydocks World will nominate three of the five directors and appoint the chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and chief operating officer. Cochin Shipyard Limited will nominate the remaining two directors, and both partners are expected to invest Rs 900 crore each in the project.
3. India-Russia Trade Target Set at $100 Billion by 2030: India and Russia have set a bilateral trade target of 100 billion by 2030, with current trade at around 60 billion. The two countries are also pursuing a new Bilateral Investment Treaty and a bilateral investment target of $50 billion by 2030. India and Russia discussed expanded industrial cooperation in New Delhi in September 2026 ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit. The agenda covered railways, the steel value chain, civil nuclear energy, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, information technology, artificial intelligence, services, engineering, and auto components. INNOPROM India 2026 was held in New Delhi around 10–11 September 2026. The exhibition brought together India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Russia’s Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov for discussions on industrial and trade cooperation.
4. US Declares Largest Multistate Cyclosporiasis Outbreak Over: U.S. federal health officials declared the largest recorded multistate cyclosporiasis outbreak over on 11 September 2026. The outbreak was linked to processed iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico, supplied from central Mexico, and it affected 12,883 infections across 21 states. The lettuce-linked outbreak caused 570 hospitalisations and two deaths, both in Michigan. Michigan reported more than 14,000 cases and two deaths, followed by Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio among the affected states. Since 1 May 2026, the CDC recorded 19,595 laboratory-confirmed cyclosporiasis cases acquired in the United States across 49 states and Washington, D.C. The same period included 1,043 hospitalisations and two deaths, compared with 1,180 cases reported between 1 May and 31 August 2025.
5. Princess Astrid of Norway Dies at 94: Princess Astrid of Norway died on 11 September 2026 at the age of 94. The Norwegian Royal House announced that she passed away peacefully on the same day. She was the last surviving child of King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha, and she was born on 12 February 1932. Princess Astrid belonged to the House of Glücksburg, the royal dynasty of Norway since 1905. King Olav V reigned from 1957 to 1991, and Crown Princess Märtha was the wife of the future King Olav V. King Harald V was her younger brother, and he died on 28 August 2026 at the age of 89.
6. Important Indigenous Cattle Breeds of India: India’s indigenous cattle breeds are an important genetic resource for agriculture, dairy development and rural livelihoods. Their value lies in adaptability to local climates, resistance to diseases and suitability for low-input farming systems. For Prelims, the key areas are breed classification, notable examples, conservation schemes and recent assisted reproductive technology applications. Indian indigenous cattle are broadly grouped by utility into three categories: dairy, draught and dual-purpose. This classification is useful for understanding their economic role and breeding priorities. The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) is the nodal agency for identification, characterization and conservation of livestock and poultry genetic resources in India. It also maintains the official register of recognized breeds.
7. BRICS: Member Countries and Institutions: BRICS is a major platform of emerging economies that promotes cooperation on economics, politics, and development. It also seeks reforms in global governance so that international institutions better reflect contemporary power shifts. For prelims, BRICS is important for its evolving membership, key financial institutions, and its role in multilateral economic diplomacy. The term BRIC was coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill for Brazil, Russia, India, and China. These four economies were seen as rising powers with strong growth potential. The first BRIC summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009, marking the beginning of the grouping’s formal political dialogue.
South Africa joined in 2010, expanding the forum to BRICS and adding an important African dimension to the grouping. The expansion changed BRICS from a purely economic idea into a broader platform for South-South cooperation, development coordination, and global governance discussions.

1. India launches SHIELD Program for Microwave Defence testing: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has officially launched the SHIELD programme, codenamed for an advanced S-band High-Power Microwave Integrated Evaluation System, under the Technology Development Fund (TDF). The initiative aims to bring Indian start-ups and MSMEs into non-kinetic defence research. By focusing on electromagnetic evaluation rather than conventional combat equipment, it addresses a critical gap in modern warfare, where electronic systems face silent but potentially devastating high-intensity radiation threats. Designed as a versatile and modular platform, SHIELD is engineered to evaluate how intense microwave energy affects sensitive military electronics, communication nodes and command links.
2. INS Mysore Concludes Participation In The 4th Edition Of Exercise Samudra Laksamana At Lumut, Malaysia.: Indian Naval Ship Mysore participated in the 4th edition of Exercise Samudra Laksamana with the Royal Malaysian Navy at Lumut, Malaysia, from 09 to 12 Sep 2026. The exercise provided an opportunity for the Indian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Navy to engage across a broad spectrum of professional and operational activities. The harbour phase featured professional exchanges and interactions between personnel of the two Navies, facilitating the sharing of experiences and fostering greater mutual understanding. The engagement progressed to the operational phase at sea, during which INS Mysore exercised with Royal Malaysian Navy ships KD Lekir and KD Gagah Samudera.

1. East Zone clinch Duleep Trophy after 13 years: East Zone translated their complete dominance over the last 12 sessions into a Duleep Trophy victory after 13 years, overwhelming South Zone on the basis of a massive first innings lead on the fifth and final day.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
1. ISRO successfully tests CE20 cryogenic engine for LVM3-M7 mission: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed a flight acceptance hot test of its indigenous CE20 cryogenic engine at an uprated thrust level of 22 tonnes (220 kN) for the upcoming LVM3-M7 mission at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. LVM3, formerly known as GSLV MkIII, is ISRO’s heaviest rocket and uses the CE20 cryogenic engine to power its upper stage. This crucial test proves the engine is ready for flight and helps prepare India’s heavy-lift rocket for upcoming high-payload flights.
2. FASTag Users Can Switch Banks Under One Tag System: The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways launched the One Tag system on 11 September 2026 at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. The facility allows FASTag users to switch the backend issuing bank without removing or replacing the physical sticker on the vehicle windshield. FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that uses Radio Frequency Identification technology for automatic deduction of toll charges. It is linked to a prepaid or bank account and is used on national highways and selected expressways in India. Digital toll collection now covers more than 98% of national highway user fees. The One Tag system works in a manner similar to mobile number portability. Vehicle owners can port their FASTag digitally by linking the existing tag to a new bank account through the National Highways Authority of India’s Rajmarg Yatra mobile app. Earlier, users had to close the old account, buy a new tag, and remove the old sticker before changing banks.
3. India, US Secure Undersea Cable Networks under TRUST Initiative: India and the United States have expanded cooperation on undersea cable networks under the US-India TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technologies) Initiative. The partnership covers subsea systems that carry more than 95% of global digital traffic and support international communications, financial services, cloud computing, and the global digital economy. TRUST stands for Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technologies. It is a bilateral framework between India and the United States for cooperation in strategic technologies, including secure digital infrastructure and resilient supply chains. The undersea cable partnership falls within this framework and involves government and industry stakeholders.
BANKING AND FINANCE
1. Niyo gets GIFT City licence, plans to expand cross-border financial services: Fintech platform Niyo has secured a Payment Service Provider (PSP) licence from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to operate from GIFT City, as the company looks to expand its cross-border financial services beyond travel forex. The licence will allow Niyo to build and offer international financial solutions from GIFT City. Niyo currently operates in the travel forex segment and plans to broaden its offerings to cover other cross-border requirements, including international education, employment, spending and money transfers.
2. RBI Approvals: RNFI Services, PB Pay & ICICI Prudential AMC Receive Regulatory Nod: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted regulatory approvals in September 2026 to RNFI Services Ltd., PB Pay Private Limited, and ICICI Prudential AMC.
3. SEBI Proposes New CAS Framework for Expiry-Day Settlement: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a consultation paper on 12 September 2026 on changes to the Closing Auction Session (CAS) framework and derivatives settlement methodology. The proposal covers expiry-day settlement for futures and options (F&O) stocks, market timings, and price-discovery mechanisms in the Indian securities market. SEBI has proposed a Blended VWAP method for expiry-day settlement. VWAP stands for Volume-Weighted Average Price, and the proposed method uses trades from the last 30 minutes of the Continuous Trading Session and 10 minutes of CAS. An alternative proposal retains the existing CTS VWAP method, which uses only trades from the final 30 minutes of continuous trading before any shift to the blended method after at least one year.

1. 62nd Maharashtra Film Awards: The 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards celebrated the best of Marathi cinema from 2024, with the awards recognising films, actors, directors, singers, writers and technicians across several categories.
