Center Launched CRS Mobile App for Births and Deaths: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a mobile application for seamless and hassle-free registration of birth and death at the click of a button.The Civil Registration System (CRS) mobile app, prepared by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, is expected to significantly reduce the time required for the registration of birth and death.The app facilitates the registration of births and deaths, making the process seamless and hassle-free. Citizens can register at any time and from any location, using their State’s official language.The application is expected to reduce the time required for these registrations. This move is part of a larger effort to modernize government services through digital solutions.

 

2. Praveena Rai takes over as CEO and MD of Multi Commodity Exchange of India: Praveena Rai has appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX).Her term as MD and CEO is set for five years.With over three decades of experience, Rai is a prominent figure in India’s financial sector, notably contributing to digital and strategic advancements.Prior to joining MCX, Rai served as chief operating officer at the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), where she played a key role in formulating business, operational, and technical strategies and shaping the organisation’s industry impact.

 

3. Ladakh Inaugurates First Polo Stadium at LG Cup: An important event took place in Ladakh. The Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra, inaugurated the 4th LG Horse Polo Cup 2024. This event was held at the Horse Polo Ground in Goshan Drass. It marked a celebration of polo, an important cultural sport in the region. During the event, the Lieutenant Governor unveiled Ladakh’s first Polo Stadium. This stadium is located in Goshan Drass. It is a landmark facility built for 6.84 crore rupees. The stadium aims to promote polo and provide a venue for local and national tournaments.

 

4. FSSAI Boosts E-Commerce Food Safety Regulations: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced new measures for e-commerce food delivery. This comes as India prepares for a surge in tourism from November to March. Increased surveillance aims to ensure food safety during this busy period. FSSAI has instructed state authorities to enhance the monitoring of e-commerce warehouses. The goal is to ensure that food delivered to consumers is safe. The agency emphasized the need for standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse operations and delivery personnel.

1. 18-Year-Old Nepal’s Nima Rinji Sherpa Conquered World’s 14 Highest Peaks: At just 18 years old, Nepal’s Nima Rinji Sherpa has achieved a milestone few have accomplished, becoming the youngest climber to reach all 14 of the world’s tallest mountains, known as the “eight-thousanders.”Mr Rinji’s journey culminated with the summit of Shishapangma, Nepal’s 8,027-metre peak, alongside climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa.

Indian Army contingent departs for 9th India-Indonesia joint exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 in Jakarta: The Indian Army contingent comprising 25 personnel departed for Jakarta to take part in the 9th edition of India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24.The Exercise will be conducted from 1st to 12th of this month.The Indian contingent is being represented by troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and Indonesian contingent comprising 40 personnel is represented by Indonesian Special Forces Kopassus.The aim of the Exercise is to acquaint both the sides with each other’s operating procedures, enhance mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the Special Forces of both armies.The Exercise is designed to develop bilateral military cooperation and strengthen bond between two armies through conduct of discussions and rehearsal of tactical military drills.

 

2. Indian Army contingent departs for 15th edition of India-US joint Exercise: The Indian Army contingent departed for the 15th edition of India-US joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR.The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 2 November to November 22 at the Orchard Combat Training Centre in Idaho, US.The last edition of the same exercise was conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya, in December last year.This will be the second exercise of the year between the Indian and the US Army. The previous exercise, YUDH ABHYAS 2024, was conducted in Rajasthan in September.The aim of Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR is to promote military cooperation between India and the US through enhancement of interoperability, jointness, and mutual exchange of special operations tactics. It will enhance combined capabilities in executing joint Special Forces operations in desert and semi-desert environments.

 

3. India-Bhutan Border ICP Inaugurated in Assam: The first Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bhutan border was inaugurated at Darranga, Assam. This event marked an important milestone in India-Bhutan relations. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay were present at the inauguration. An Integrated Check Post (ICP) is a facility that streamlines customs and immigration processes at international borders. It aims to facilitate trade and movement between countries. ICPs are designed to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times for goods and people crossing borders.

 

4. Poorvi Prahaar: India Launches Major Tri-Services Exercise: India is preparing for an important military exercise named ‘Poorvi Prahaar’. This tri-services event begins on November 8 and lasts for ten days. It involves the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The exercise aims to demonstrate operational readiness and enhance inter-service collaboration. The exercise follows the recent disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. This disengagement occurred at two key friction points – Depsang and Demchok. Ongoing negotiations aim to de-escalate troop presence in the region. The talks include discussions on restoring patrolling rights in the Yangtse area of the Tawang sector.

1. Zimbabwe Launches Second Satellite ZIMSAT-2: Zimbabwe successfully launched its second satellite, ZIMSAT-2. This event marks an important advancement in the country’s space programme. The launch took place from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia, following the deployment of Zimbabwe’s first satellite, ZimSat-1, in November 2022. ZIMSAT-2 is a low Earth observation satellite. It was launched aboard the Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft at 1 AM. The launch was a collaborative effort between the Zimbabwe National Geo-Spatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) and Southwest State University in Russia.

Himachal Pradesh’s Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park’ set to become India’s first Zoo with IGBC certification: The upcoming ‘Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park’ at Bankhandi in Kangra district would become India’s first zoo to receive certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its sustainable and eco-friendly initiatives.The project has officially been registered with the IGBC, focusing on both building and landscape certifications, which will validate the park’s adherence to high environmental standards.The certification underscores the state’s priority on integrating sustainability into tourism and infrastructure development. Once completed, Durgesh Aranya will not only be a tourist attraction, but also a model for sustainable infrastructure, blending conservation with innovation.The first phase of the zoological park project will cover an area of 25 hectares with an estimated cost of Rs 230 crore. It is slated to be completed by the third quarter of 2025.

Ravindra Jadeja becomes India’s 5th Highest Wicket-Taker in Tests: Ravindra Jadeja surpassed Ishant Sharma to become the fifth-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket.He achieved this significant landmark on the opening day of the third and final Test of the series against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium here.Jadeja went past both Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma, who have 311 Test wickets under their kitty apiece, to reach this position with a tally of 312 wickets.With 312 wickets, Jadeja now stands just behind Harbhajan Singh, who claimed 417 wickets across 103 Tests.Apart from this, Ravindra Jadeja has equalled Pakistan spinner Abdul Qadir in the list of most five-wicket hauls by a spinner at home in Test cricket.In the list of most five-fors, Jadeja is currently joint-eighth with Qadir, who picked up 168 wickets from 40 Tests from 1977 to 1990. GST records second highest collection at 1.87 lakh crore rupees in October: Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in October rose 9 percent to over 1.87 lakh crore, the second-highest ever, mainly due to rise in domestic sales and improved compliance.The Central GST collection stood at 33,821 crore rupees, State GST at 41,864 crore rupees, Integrated IGST at 99,111 crore rupees and cess at 12,550 crore rupees during the month.The total gross GST revenue grew 8.9 percent to 1, 87,346 crore rupees. In October 2023, the mop-up was at 1.72 lakh crore rupees.October 2024 recorded the second-best GST mop-up. The highest-ever collection was in April 2024 at over 2.10 lakh crore rupees.The strong GST numbers indicate a healthy trajectory for India’s economy, driven by domestic consumption and import activity.

It has an allocation of 1261 crores and will run from 2024 to 2026. The goal is to support farmers by offering drone rental services for agricultural tasks. The scheme is expected to provide sustainable income opportunities for SHGs. It will also introduce advanced technology into agriculture. This initiative aims to enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability for farmers. The overall goal is to improve rural livelihoods and empower women through technology.

This discovery marks the first time scientists have identified such a configuration in space. The system is located approximately 8,000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cygnus. It features a central black hole, a star spiraling closely around it, and a more distant star. This discovery enhances our understanding of black holes and their formation. 1. Bibek Debroy passes away at 69 Bibek Debroy :  A renowned Indian economist and the Chief of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), passed away at the age of 69. 1. India’s National Large Solar Telescope Project in Ladakh : The Sun is crucial for life on Earth, yet we know little about it. Solar storms can disrupt satellites and technology. India is addressing this gap by establishing the National Large Solar Telescope (NLST) in Ladakh. This project, led by Professor Annapurni Subramaniam, aims to enhance our understanding of solar activity. The NLST aims to address key scientific questions about solar behaviour. It will provide vital information about the origin and dynamics of solar magnetic fields. This knowledge is crucial for understanding solar storms and their effects on Earth.

 

2. Vigilance Awareness Week 2024 : Vigilance Awareness Week 2024 is currently underway. It runs from October 28 to November 3, 2024. This year’s theme is Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity. The Central Vigilance Commissioner, Shri Praveen Kumar Srivastava, and Vigilance Commissioner, Shri A.S. 1. Three Chinese astronauts enter space station after successful launch : Three Chinese astronauts, including a woman, made a smooth entry into the orbiting space station after the successful launch of their spaceship to man the station for the next six months. The three astronauts of China’s Shenzhou-19 spaceflight mission have entered the Tiangong space station and met with another astronaut trio starting a new round of in-orbit crew handover. Earlier, the spaceship Shenzhou-19 carrying the three astronauts successfully docked with the space station combination. The spaceship made a fast, automated rendezvous and docking with the front port of the space station’s core module Tianhe at 11 after which the three astronauts entered it.

Rachel Gupta makes history as first Indian to win Miss Grand International 2024 :  20-year-old Rachel Gupta from Jalandhar has become the first Indian to win the prestigious Miss Grand International 2024 crown. The groundbreaking victory came as she competed against contestants from more than 70 countries.

The BRIC-National Agri-Food Biomanufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI), formed through the strategic merger of NABI and CIAB, is poised to transform India’s agricultural landscape by uniting biotechnology and bioprocessing expertise.

 

2. India’s first ‘Writer’s village’ inaugurated in Dehradun :  The country’s first ‘Writer’s village’ was jointly inaugurated by former President Ram Nath Kovind, Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Located in Thano village, about 24 km from Dehradun, the ‘Writer’s village’ is the brainchild of former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, a distinguished writer himself. On this occasion, during the three-day International Literature, Culture and Art Festival ‘Sparsh Himalaya Mahotsav-2024’, the first work of Writer’s village, ‘Ram in the Himalayas’, written by Nishank, was also released.

 

3. Ayurveda Day and Dhanteras Health Initiatives Launched : Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched health initiatives worth nearly Rs 12,850 crore. This event coincided with the ninth Ayurveda Day and the festival of Dhanteras. Ayurveda Day is observed annually on Dhanvantri Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantri, the divine physician.

What is Ayurveda Day? - Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine focused on holistic well-being. The Government of India established Ayurveda Day in 2016 to promote awareness of Ayurvedic practices. Celebrated on Dhanwantri Jayanti, this day honours Dhanvantri’s contributions to health and wellness. Ayurveda translates to “knowledge of life.”

Fiji honours Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with its highest Civilian Award :  The South Pacific nation of Fiji has conferred its highest civilian honour upon Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the global spiritual master and humanitarian leader, for his tireless contribution to the upliftment of the human spirit and bringing diverse communities together in peace and harmony. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was given the title of ‘Honourary Officer Of The Order of Fiji’ by the President of the Republic of Fiji, HE Ratu Wiliame M Katonivere.

1. PM Modi & Spanish PM Pedro inaugurate Tata’s C-295 aircraft factory :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, jointly inaugurated the Tata Advanced Systems Ltd’s (TASL) Tata Aircraft Complex at Vadodara, Gujarat. The complex is the final assembly line plant of the C-295 military transport aircraft that India bought from Airbus. This is Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s first visit to India, and after 18 years, a Spanish Prime Minister has been visiting India.

 

2. Conservation scientist Bibhab Talukdar conferred with IUCN award :  A passionate conservation scientist of global repute from Assam Bibhab Kumar Talukdar has been conferred ‘The Harry Messel Award’ for Conservation Leadership by the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The award was presented to him at the 5th IUCN SSC Leaders’ Meeting that is underway in Abu Dhabi. The award has been presented for Talukdar’s contribution to species Conservation on the ground and through leadership, as part of the work of the Species Survival Commission.

India Ranks 79 out of 142 in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index :  India ranked 79 out of 142 countries in the Rule of Law Index 2024, released by the World Justice Project (WJP), a Washington D.C.-based think tank. Globally, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Germany stood in the top five places. The Rule of Law Index ranks the countries on eight indicators: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil Justice and criminal justice. Within South Asia, India ranked third after Nepal (69) and Sri Lanka (75), followed by Bangladesh (127) Pakistan (129) and Afghanistan (140).

 

2. 29 October – World Stroke Day :  World Stroke Day is observed annually on October 29 to raise awareness about strokes, their causes, and the importance of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. It was established by the World Stroke Organisation to draw attention to the high prevalence and impact of strokes worldwide, as well as to educate people about risk factors and preventive measures. 1. Modi Inaugurates C-295 Aircraft Plant in Vadodara : Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new plant in Vadodara. This facility will manufacture the C-295 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez attended the event, marking an important milestone in India’s military aviation capabilities. The plant is the first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft in India.

Background of the C-295  -  The C-295 is a transport aircraft originally produced by Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA, now part of Airbus. In September 2021 signed a deal worth Rs 21,935 crore with Airbus Defence and Space for 56 C-295 aircraft. These are intended to replace the ageing Avro-748 planes used by the IAF since the 1960s.

 

2. Armenia Becomes India’s Leading Defence Export Destination : Armenia has emerged as India’s leading destination for defence exports. In the fiscal year 2023-24 achieved a record in defence exports, totalling Rs 21,083 crore (approximately $2.63 billion). This marks a 32.5% increase from the previous year. Rising security concerns in Eurasia have prompted Armenia to shift away from its historical reliance on Russian arms, seeking diversification and self-reliance in its defence strategy.

India finishes U23 World Wrestling Championships 2024 with 9 Medals :  The Indian wrestling contingent finished its U23 World Wrestling Championships 2024 campaign with nine medals—1 gold, 1 silver, and 7 bronze. Last year also, the Indian contingent had won 9 medals -1 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals at the U23 World Wrestling Championships 2023 held in Tirana. The U23 World Wrestling Championships 2024 was organized by the world wrestling governing body United World Wrestling (UWW) and hosted by Albania in Tirana.

India wins 24 medals at the Japan Para-Badminton International 2024 :  Indian para-badminton players delivered an impressive performance at the Japan Para-Badminton Internationals 2024 by winning 24 medals- 6 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze. The Japan Para-Badminton Internationals 2024 was held in Tokyo, Japan.
