NATIONAL UPDATES:
1.
Rajasthan government will introduce India’s first right-to-health bill: The Rajasthan
government is soon likely to introduce in the Assembly the Right to Health
Bill, “the first of its kind in India”, which aims to commit to quality and
affordable health care services through government and private health care
providers. In January, the government had prepared a draft bill that defines
the rights of patients, their attendants and health care providers, as well as
a system for addressing grievances of the stakeholders.
Important points of the bill:
a)
The
right to health bill is part of the Rajasthan government’s bid to expand and
strengthen medical services in the state.
b)
Recently,
the chief minister approved Rs 117 crore towards expansion of the facilities in
Mahila Chikitsalaya (women’s hospital) at Sanganeri Gate in Jaipur.
c)
The
state has also ensured health security of every family by providing free
treatment up to Rs 10 lakh to the people through Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi
Swasthya Bima Yojana.
d)
Along
with this, an accident insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh is being given to the
families registered in the scheme.
e)
Also,
medicines and tests of the patients coming to government health facilities are
being provided free of cost.

2. Mission
Kushal Karmi: Delhi Govt’s scheme to improve construction workers’ skills: Manish Sisodia,
the deputy chief minister of Delhi, started Mission Kushal Karmi to help
construction workers improve their abilities. According to a formal press
release, the Delhi government developed this programme with assistance from the
Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) and Delhi Building and Other
Construction Workers Welfare Board.
Key Points:
a)
This
DSEU programme to increase the skills of construction workers, in collaboration
with Simplex, NAREDCO, and India Vision Foundation, is particularly unique.
Workers will upskill as part of this 15-day special training programme, which
will increase their salaries in the future.
b)
This
will contribute to an increase in worker salary of up to Rs 8,000. Under this
scheme, the government wants to train 2 lakh workers in one year.
c)
The
Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University now operates training centres in 3
locations, and more centres will be added soon. At each of these centres,
excellent training spaces have also been created for the staff.
d)
The
program’s goal is to offer over 2 lakh registered construction workers
on-the-job skill development training in industry demand-driven job roles in
the construction sector each year.
3. To
execute NEP 2020, PM launches Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam: According to a
press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
launched Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam on the National Education Policy in
Varanasi. The Prime Minister told the audience that “our education system and
young generation carry a large role of realising the vows of the “Amrit Kaal.”
He bowed to Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya, wishing the Samagam all the best.
Shiksha Samagam:
a)
The
Shiksha Samagam is being put on by the Ministry of Education. Eminent
academics, policymakers, and academic leaders will have a forum to deliberate,
exchange their experiences, and discuss the National Education Policy (NEP)
2020 implementation roadmap.
b)
More
than 300 Academic, Administrative, and Institutional Leaders from Universities
(Central, State, Deemed, and Private), and Institutes of National Importance
(IIT, IIM, NIT, IISER) from around the nation are participating in the event as
part of improving their capacities.
c)
The
progress of NEP implementation in each participant’s institution would be
discussed, along with notable implementation tactics, best practises, and
success stories.
d)
Panel
discussions on the nine topics chosen for higher education under NEP 2020 will
be held during the course of the three-day Shiksha Samagam.
4. UP
becomes first state to have 13 expressways in the nation: Uttar Pradesh‘s
largest expressway network now has a foundation thanks to Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath. The state will soon have better highway connectivity from many
other nations throughout the world. The state now boasts 13 expressways, making
it the first state in the nation to do so. Six of the 13 expressways totaling
3200 km are in use while the other seven are under construction.
Key Points:
a)
On
July 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the 296 kilometre
long Bundelkhand Expressway, which will link Bundelkhand and Delhi. In the last
five years, CM Yogi has drastically altered the state’s infrastructure.
b)
The
BJP government has put a lot of effort into revitalising the roads after
realising that infrastructure is the economic growth engine and that roads are
a reflection of advancement.
c)
The
NCR and western UP population’s long-standing request has been met by the
double engine government. Taking the Delhi-Meerut Expressway as an
illustration. Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the cornerstone for the
594 kilometre long Ganga Expressway.
d)
This
expressway will help to bridge the hearts as well as shorten the distance
between East and West. In addition, the construction of the Lucknow-Kanpur
Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway,
Ghazipur-Ballia-Manjhighat Expressway, and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will
benefit all residents of the state. In addition, industrial corridors are being
constructed beside motorways and expressways.

5.
Western Railways opened longest skywalk connecting Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus to
Khar station:
The Western Railway’s (WR) longest skywalk from the Khar Road railway station
to the nearby Bandra Terminus has been opened for the passengers to reach the
platforms to board trains easily. The skywalk spans 314 meters long and is 4.4
meters wide. Western Railway’s noted that the skywalk will allow passengers to
reach Bandra (T) directly by deboarding at Khar station & taking south Foot
Over Bridge.
About the skywalk: This skywalk has
made travelling very convenient as earlier passengers travelling by suburban
trains had to get down at Bandra or Khar Railway station to reach Bandra
Terminus by walking. The new skywalk was built at an estimated cost of Rs 14
crore. Around 510 MT structural steel, 20 MT Reinforcement steel and 240 cum of
concrete was used for the construction. This skywalk will connect all foot over
bridges of Bandra Terminus.

K Gupta named as deputy Election commissioner: Senior bureaucrat
R K Gupta was appointed as the deputy election commissioner, an order issued by
the Personnel Ministry said. He comes in place of T Sreekanth. Gupta, a Central
Secretariat Service (CSS) officer, will serve as deputy election commissioner
(Joint secretary level) till 28 February next year, the date of his
superannuation.

Deutsche Bahn to be world’s first intermodal partner of Star Alliance: Deutsche Bahn
(DB) will be the world’s first Intermodal Partner of Star Alliance. With this,
DB and the aviation industry are sending another strong signal for the
environment-friendly evolution of the travel industry. Under the new
cooperation, DB customers and passengers of Star Alliance member airlines will
be able to start or end their long-distance journey comfortably on the
climate-friendly train. Germany is the first market and DB is the world’s first
partner in the new Star Alliance initiative.
An industry-first, Star Alliance’s
Intermodal Partnership model intelligently combines airlines with railway, bus,
ferry or any other transport ecosystem, alliance-wide. It is designed to link
loyalty systems and facilitate seamless airport/station/port transit. Star
Alliance plans to expand intermodal partnerships in the future.
About the partnership: The new
partnership between DB and Star Alliance builds on the Lufthansa Express Rail
program. Lufthansa customers have been able to buy a combined ticket for trains
and flights in one booking step for more than 20 years.
In the future, in addition to Lufthansa,
all 25 other Star Alliance member airlines will be able to include DB’s
environmentally friendly ICE trains as a flight number in their booking engine
and customers will benefit from advantages.

World Population Day: 11th July: World Population Day is observed every
year on July 11 to raise awareness about global population issues. The major
purpose of this day is to raise awareness of all the negative impacts that
population growth has had on the steady development of nature. The theme for
this year is “A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all –
Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all”. As the theme
suggests, there are 8 billion people living today but not all of them have
equal rights and opportunities.
World Population Day History: It was founded in
1989 by the then-Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme.
On July 11, 1990, the day was first observed in more than 90 nations. Since
then, a number of UNFPA national offices as well as other organizations and
institutions, in collaboration with governments and civil society, have
observed World Population Day.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wins Austrian Grand Prix 2022: Ferrari’s Charles
Leclerc held off world champion Max Verstappen to win the Austrian Grand Prix
2022. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had to settle for second and Mercedes’
seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was a distant third, after starting
eighth, to complete the podium for the third race in a row. Leclerc, whose
victory is his first in Formula 1 had not started on pole position, has now
closed the gap to Verstappen in the drivers’ championship standings to 38
points.
The 2022 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula
One motor race held on 10 July 2022 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria.
It was the second Grand Prix weekend of the 2022 season to utilise the Formula
One sprint format.

Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic wins seventh title: Serbia Novak
Djokovic won a seventh Wimbledon men’s title and 21st Grand Slam crown with a
four-set triumph over Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios gave his best to challenge the more
experienced rival in his first Major final, but he could take only one set,
propelling Djokovic toward the 21st Major crown.
Women Singles: Kazakhstan’s
Elena Rybakina made a brilliant comeback after being set down to beat Tunisian
third-seed Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and win the Women’s Singles title at
Wimbledon. Rybakina became the first-ever Kazakh female player in the Open Era
to win a WTA title on grass and is also the Kazakh female player with the most
WTA-level titles in the Open Era (3). The 23-year-old also became the youngest
female player to win the title in Wimbledon since Petra Kvitova in 2011.

BANKING AND FINANCE
1.
Shriram General Insurance and City Union Bank signed corporate agency
agreement: City
Union Bank (CUB) and Shriram General Insurance inked an agreement in a
corporate setup to offer Shriram General Insurance’s insurance products through
its network of 727 offices throughout India. According to this arrangement,
Shriram General Insurance will provide customers of the bank with personal
lines of insurance products including auto, personal injury, house, and travel
insurance as well as business lines of insurance goods like property, marine,
and engineering insurance.
Key Points:
a)
According
to a press release, the arrangement would improve customer experience by
utilizing technology and enhancing the services offered by the bank.
b)
For
general insurance, life insurance, and health insurance, the Insurance
Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) has allowed banks to form
alliances with three different corporations. The bank and Shriram Insurance
have recently formed a partnership.
c)
In
the beginning, the bank collaborated with the broking company Bharat Re
Insurance Brokers (of the Shriram Group) to handle customers, assess risks, and
settle claims. However, this is no longer present.

BUSINESS AND ECONOMY
1.
India’s Retail inflation at 7.01% in June: Retail inflation, based on the
consumer price index (CPI), eased to 7.01 per cent in June this year compared
to 7.04 per cent in the preceding month. Ministry of Statistics and Programme
Implementation said inflation eased marginally mainly due to easing prices in
the “Food & Beverages” section.
Key Points:
a)
In
June 2022, inflation in the food basket came at 7.56 per cent, compared to 7.84
per cent in May this year.
b)
The
inflation figure in vegetables eased to 17.37 per cent during the reported
month from 18.26 per cent in May 2022.
c)
Surging
global commodity prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war and high crude oil prices
have kept inflation above RBI’s six per cent upper tolerance range.
d)
The
government has mandated the central bank to maintain retail inflation at four
per cent with a margin of two per cent on either side for a five-year period
ending March 2026.

Pallavi Singh wins the Mrs Universe Divine Crown in South Korea: India’s Pallavi
Singh has won the Mrs Universe Divine Title at the finals held at Yeosu City,
South Korea. She hails from Kanpur, India, and has made her country proud in
this contest that saw participation from 110 countries. This is a proud moment
for India. Pallavi Singh was the contestant from Asia in the Mrs Universe
contest and has demonstrated the strong will and commitment of Indian women to
excel in all walks of life.
Pallavi Singh won the title of Mrs India held in Jaipur in 2020. She then won the title of Mrs Indo-Asia Universe in the Asia-level competition held in Delhi in October 2021. She was the contestant from India and Asia in the Mrs Universe contest, which saw her taking away the crown.
